Since the 19th century, the theory of evolution has unsettled and shaken traditional and fundamental anthropological assumptions about the place of human beings in nature.
The Darwinian integration of human development / evolution into the natural history was met by the philosophical and theological anthropology of the 20th century ( Scheler, Plessner, Gehlen, Portmann, Pannenberg ) with the attempt to constitute the special status of humans in their intrinsic open-minded, spirit-endowed nature.

Die Evolutionstheorie hat seit dem 19. Jahrhundert tradierte anthropologische Grundannahmen über die Stellung des Menschen in der Natur irritiert und erschüttert.
Der darwinistischen Eingliederung der menschlichen Entwicklung in die Naturgeschichte ist die philosophische und theologische Anthropologie des 20. Jahrhunderts ( Scheler, Plessner, Gehlen, Portmann, Pannenberg ) mit dem Versuch begegnet, die Sonderstellung des Menschen in seiner spezifisch offenen, geistbegabten Natur zu begründen.
