He was replaced by Norbert Cyffer, a specialist in Nilo-Saharan languages, who stayed in Mainz for ten years before accepting a professorship in Vienna in 1994.
He was followed by Raimund Kastenholz (Mande languages) in 1996.
www.ifeas.uni-mainz.dePaul de Wolf ( Bantu- und Sudansprachen, Oratur ) übernahm die Professur.
Dieser schied 1982 wieder aus, worauf Norbert Cyffer (Nilo-Saharanische Sprachen) 1984 die Nachfolge antrat.Cyffer hatte die Professur zehn Jahre inne und folgte im Jahre 1994 einem Ruf nach Wien.
Sein Nachfolger ist seit 1996 Raimund Kastenholz (Mandesprachen).
