This video signal can be stored on any ordinary analog video tape recorder, since these were the only widely available devices with sufficient bandwidth.
That was possible because a composite video signal blanks the video output signal during the blanking periods of the horizontal and especially the long vertical video sync pulses.
However, because of the limited frequency spectrum allowed for modulated digital video signal, the digital video signal must become a continuous-time digital video signal.
