The vehicle's directional signals (commonly known as blinkers or indicators) are often used as a way to announce one's intention to turn, thus alerting other drivers.

Like blinkers, it partially restricts the horse's vision, and helps him to concentrate on what is in front of him, rather than objects on the ground (such as shadows).
