Cocoa, which is grown on five to six million hectares in the coastal areas of West Africa, is one of the region ’ s most important agricultural products.
Some 70 % of the cocoa produced worldwide comes from the region, providing a source of income for around two million families of small-scale farmers, who usually farm no more than two hectares.
