A regular sponge cake, lined with shop-bought chocolate cigarellos, it looked like the sort of gateau displayed in the windows of upmarket tea restaurants.
The menu included baked salmon, strawberry gateau and a starter composed to look like a bowl of fruit that in fact turned out to be offal and sweetbreads.
