The beginnings of the village, albeit primitive shelters which arose around the mines, the smelting furnaces and the forges, can be traced to in the early 15th century.
A document dated May 2, 1406, already mentions a forge in the Vesser valley, located first at the "unteres Forsthaus" (lower forester's house) until 1748, then until 1854 at what is today the "Hammerwiese" or "forge meadow".
