Competition was opened to films from Eastern Europe and Asia in the years that followed, the “ German Series ” and the “ Children ’ s Film Festival ” were added, and the German Film Archive ( Deutsche Kinemathek ) ( now Filmmuseum Berlin – Deutsche Kinemathek ) was given conceptual responsibility for the film retrospectives.
The Berlinale continued to prove itself as an important cultural and political junction between East and West, something that was also made manifest in 1990 after German reunification.
