Seit 2006 ist Prof. Ulbrich Ordinarius an der TUM und leitet den Lehrstuhl für Mathematische Optimierung.
Von 2007 bis 2010 war er Studiendekan der Fakultät für Mathematik.

Nach dem Mathematikstudium promovierte (1996) und habilitierte (2002) Prof. Ulbrich an der TUM.
Finanziert durch Forschungs- bzw. Habilitationsstipendien der DFG verbrachte er in den Jahren 1996/97 und 1999/2000 Forschungsaufenthalte an der Rice University in Houston, USA.

DFG grants enabled him to do research at Rice University in Houston, USA, in 1996/97 and 1999/2000.
