We never had the jingoistic, xenophobic yobbo celebrations until about the 90s because "patriotism" in those forms was seen as the "last refuge of the scoundrel".
The light might provide a deterrent, but when it doesn't, the change in light level will trigger the webcam, so at least you can see which local yobbo was responsible.
