Urban decay (also known as urban rot and urban blight) is the process whereby a previously functioning city, or part of a city, falls into disrepair and decrepitude.
However, due to increasing deindustrialization and rising unemployment the area has experienced growing problems with poverty, population decline and urban blight, as is the region as a whole.
