Activation of this receptor causes a decrease in pain sensations and increased sleepiness but can also cause psychological symptoms such as dysphoria, paranoia, and hallucinations.
Unfortunately, several participants in the study had to discontinue treatment because of side effects such as excessive daytime sleepiness or orthostatic hypotension.
