Diabetes has been shown to impair intelligence, memory, attention and understanding in children and adolescents, as well as verbal (and therefore overall) intelligence quotient.
They also have been shown to have some cognitive disabilities (difficulty in complex problem solving) and social difficulties (missing subtle social cues), even when their intelligence quotient is normal.
Measures of working-memory capacity are strongly related to performance in other complex cognitive tasks such as reading comprehension, problem solving, and with any measures of the intelligence quotient.
