Under its supply management regime, established in 1966, the commission's mandate has been to set the price of milk per hectolitre for dairy farmers owning production quotas.
Grain quality has been mixed with low hectolitre weights in many winter barleys and skinning (loss of some of the grain hull) reported in malting barleys.
Specific weights, the weight of grain in a set volume, are "lower than normal" at 50-78 kilogrammes per hectolitre, compared with about 78-80 kilogrammes per hectolitre last year.
