After 1948 or thereabouts populism has primarily been defined as "anti-elitism" -- often simply as a demagogic political style or as an inarticulate political mood.
It is often used ironically, and can be used to mock someone's lack of techie knowledge or skills, as an insult, or to reinforce a group's elitism; cf. eye dialect.
This is mainly due to their snobbish elitism and general martial incompetence; they are much happier practising genuflection and brushing up their courtly manners.
