It occurs in an oxidized vein in limestone bedrock with galena, ashoverite, wlfingite, anglesite, cerussite, hydrocerussite, litharge, fluorite, palygorskite and calcite.
Moreover, the calcite alabaster, being a carbonate, effervesces upon being touched with hydrochloric acid, whereas the gypsum alabaster, when thus treated, remains practically unaffected.
