The restoration is stunning and includes hundreds of original carved sculptures and sea chests, the latter still packed with provisions, clothing and personal objects -- even the officers' backgammon set.
Depending on the class, sea chests, i.e. the openings in the hull for seawater intake, have to be properly arranged in order to avoid blocking up with ice.
The barge's former cargo space was converted into communal living quarters where young people sleep in hammocks and keep their belongings in big wooden sea chests.
