The Research Center Deutscher Sprachatlas
The main focus of the Deutscher Sprachatlas is the study of dialects, nonstandard and regional varieties of the German language.
Aside from housing a dedicated and approachable team of researchers, it holds a unique and extensive collection of data and documents, a specialist library and equipment for data acquisition and analysis, and is home to a very large GIS-style linguistic information system ( DiWA ).

Drawing on its resources as the world ’ s oldest linguistic research center and the birthplace of the famous Sprachatlas des deutschen Reichs, it continues to develop theoretical and methodological tools to empirically investigate linguistic variation in time and space.

Im Rahmen dieses Projektes wird Georg Wenkers „ Sprachatlas des deutschen Reichs “ nicht allein erstmals und online publiziert, sondern durch die Verknüpfung mit Tondateien, bibliographischen, soziodemographischen, topographischen, kulturhistorischen und nicht zuletzt linguistischen Daten zu einem einmaligen dialektologischen und variationslinguistischen Informationssystem erweitert.
