The reputation of the young Austrian conductor and harpsichordist Ewald Donhoffer was established almost overnight upon finishing his studies in 2007 when he was summoned to substitute for Fabio Luisi, chief conductor of the Vienna Symphony Orchestra and music director of the Staatskapelle Dresden.
He subsequently was engaged as assistant and harpsichordist for Luisi ’s production of Mozart ’s “ La Finta Semplice ” at the renowned Theater an der Wien .
Subsequent invitations included the Mozarteum Orchestra in Salzburg, Mozart’s “Magic Flute” with the Dresden Staatskapelle at the Semper Opera (2008), and in 2009, a new production of Weill’s “Mahagonny” at the Theater in Erfurt, Germany, and the Volksoper Vienna.

Im Sommer 2007 wurde er daraufhin als Assistent und Cembalist für Luisis Produktion von Mozarts „Finta semplice“ am Theater an der Wien engagiert, ein Debut das hoch gelobt wurde und zahlreiche Einladungen zur Folge hatte.
So dirigierte er an der Semperoper Mozarts „Zauberflöte“ am Pult der Staatskapelle Dresden (2008) und eine neue Produktion von Weils „Mahagonny“ (2009) am Theater Erfurt und der Wiener Volksoper.
