Once released into the environment, scandium gradually accumulates in soils, which leads to increased concentrations in soil particles, animals and humans.
Many metals form trifluorides, such as iron, bismuth, the rare earth elements, and the metals in the aluminium and scandium columns of the periodic table.
However, with the discovery of the predicted elements, notably gallium in 1875, scandium in 1879, and germanium in 1886, it began to win wide acceptance.
