Dockt der Krankheitserreger an eine Zelle, greifen die LecA-Moleküle der Bakterien und die Gb3-Lipide der Wirtsmembran ineinander – wie bei einem Reißverschluss.
Die Zellhülle umwickelt auf diese Weise Schritt für Schritt den Erreger und bringt ihn ins Zellinnere.
