Privatdozent 1970, Assistenzprofessor 1972, ausserordentlicher Professor 1976, ordentlicher Professor für Biophysik 1980. 1995 – 2000 war er Vorsteher des Biologie-Departements.
Seit 2001 ist Kurt Wüthrich auch am Scripps Research Institute tätig .
Für seine wissenschaftlichen Arbeiten wurde Kurt Wüthrich mit dem Prix Louis Jeantet de Médecine, dem Kyoto Prize in Advanced Technology, dem Nobelpreis für Chemie und weiteren Preisen und Ehrenpromotionen ausgezeichnet.
