Byzantine studies can therefore be described as a link between the studies of Ancient Greek language and literature and those of Modern Greek language and literature.
The university’s research and teaching activities do, however, also focus on the relations between the Greek culture of the Middle Ages and the Arabs, Eastern Christians (such as Armenians and Copts), Jews, and Orthodox Slavic peoples.
