Das Umgebindehaus vereint zwei traditionelle Technologien – die für die osteuropäische Region typische Blockkonstruktion, und das Fachwerk, welches charakteristisch für das westeuropäische Gebiet ist.
An den Begegnungsstellen dieser großen Gebiete der Volksarchitektur entstand somit ein Haus, das im Erdgeschoss eine Blockkonstruktion, ggf. z. T. ein Mauerwerk bildete, im Obergeschoss finden wir ein Fachwerk vor (in einem Teil Nordböhmens kommen häufig in Europa einzigartige Haustypen, bei denen das Obergeschoss eine Blockkonstruktion ist).
