Bei kleiner Amplitude erscheint die Schwingung noch annähernd harmonisch ( = sinusförmig ), bei größerer Amplitude werden die Abweichungen von der Sinusform deutlich.
Die weiß gezeichnete Kurve lässt sich als Summe aus einer konstanten Auslenkung, einer sinusförmigen Grundschwingung und einer Oberschwingung mit der doppelten Grundfrequenz annähern.
