Dieses Konzept wurde 2008 erstmals von einigen Mitgliedsstaaten ( darunter auch Österreich ) umgesetzt und soll in den nächsten Jahren zu einer vergleichbaren, gesamteuropäischen Datenbasis über wirtschaftliche Tätigkeiten zu Umweltschutz und Ressourcenmanagement ausgebaut werden.
Konsistente Daten aus sämtlichen EU-Staaten sollen zukünftig Analysen zu Umsatzwachstum, Beschäftigungspotentialen, Technologieexporten sowie Forschung- und Entwicklungstätigkeiten im Bereich der Umwelt ermöglichen und so eine fundierte Basis zur umweltpolitischen Entscheidungsfindung bereitstellen.
