Radioactive iodine, as developed in 1911, survives today primarily in the treatment of thyrotoxicosis (hyperthyroidism) and some types of thyroid cancer that absorb iodine.
Minor ocular (eye) signs, which may be present in any type of hyperthyroidism, are eyelid retraction (stare), extra-ocular muscle weakness, and lid-lag.
