I covered most of that period, and let me tell ya, grain farming and relaxed optimism, cheery irreverence and in-your-face sauciness were not things you'd connect.
This is not to say that no woman with a reporter's notebook and a hard pass has ever behaved poorly, or that journalistic sauciness doesn't make for compelling drama.
