So I found a fully-grown caterpillar in 2300m above sea level on the Simplon Pass in Valais.
In Greece, I observed larvae on a debris site at a forest edge on Viola arvensis on Mount Olympus at 1000m above sea level in May 2010.

Simultaneously found caterpillars of Lycaena virgaureae were only half-grown, wereas those of Lycaena hippothoe were also mature.

Gleichzeitig gefundene Raupen von Lycaena virgaureae waren erst halberwachsen, während solche von Lycaena hippothoe ebenfalls ausgewachsen waren.

I found a fully-grown caterpillar in a Molinia-tuft (Schönbuch, Southern Germany) in mid-October 2008 which passed the winter in this instar.
After hibernation it fed 8 days on Rubus leaves prior to pupation.

I observed half to fully-grown caterpillars in late May at about 2200m above sea level on the Täschalpe (Valais, Switzerland) together with very little larvae of Lycaena virgaureae (the latter at Rumex scutatus).
