For three years he has been using a perennial grass seed mix of 16 different plant species, including chicory, fescue, plantain, four clovers, three types of cocksfoot and timothy.
The tall oat grass and clumps of cocksfoot amongst the tussocks, that combine to give the hills their characteristic tawny hue, are symptoms of lax grazing and poor pasture management.
