What holidays there were consisted of day trips by coach to the seaside - charabanc outings - but very few people went off for longer than a day's excursion.
By 1925, there were 60,000; by 1930, 100,000, and today, with charabancs long since replaced by everyone's personal runabout, it gets close to a million visitors each year.
