The bridge completed in 1766 has five limestone arches elliptical in design (shaped like a flattened circle) giving each arch the appearance of a gearwheel.
On the inner end of the rotating windshaft is the brake wheel which drives a bevel gearwheel or wallower perched on top of the main (vertical) driveshaft.
