Die Temperaturkonstanz bzw. -zunahme hat ihre Ursache in der Strahlungskühlung durch den Wasserdampf in der oberen Troposphäre und Tropopausenregion und in der Erwärmung durch Absorption solarer Strahlung in der oberen Stratosphäre.
Letztere wird durch das Spurengas ( und Treibhausgas ) Ozon ( dreiatomiges-Sauerstoffmolekül ) bewirkt.
Ozon verteilt sich vom Erdboden bis in etwa 50 km Höhe.
