Eine Gruppe von Wissenschaftlern der Universität Zürich hat unter Anleitung von Professor Dr. Thimios Mitsiadis vom Institut für Orale Biologie ein Gen identifiziert, welches für die Bildung von Zahnschmelz verantwortlich ist.
Zahnschmelz ist die zentrale Komponente der Zähne und das härteste in der Natur bekannte organische Gewebe . Die Entdeckung eröffnet neue Perspektiven für die Behandlung von Zahnkrankheiten , wie die Forscher im Journal « Developmental Biology » berichten .

The experiments were accomplished in mice carrying a deletion of the transcription factor Tbx1, a gene that plays a principal role in several human malformations (heart, thymus, parathyroid, face, and teeth) associated to the DiGeorge syndrome.
