www.uwid.uni-wuppertal.deDer Vansee ist der tiefste ( maximale Wassertiefe mehr als 450 m ) und größte See der Türkei ( ~ 650 km3 ).
Der See hat eine WSW-ONO-Länge von 130 km und umfasst eine Fläche von ~3.600 km2.
Die sedimentäre Abfolge im Vansee ist gekennzeichnet durch jahreszeitlich geschichtete Sedimente und beinhaltet daher ein ausgezeichnetes hochaufgelöstes Paläoklimaarchiv (Litt et al., 2011).

The lake has a WSW-ENE length of 130 km and covers an area of ~3,600 km2.
Annually laminated sediments characterize the sedimentary succession of Lake Van, therefore harboring an excellent high-resolution paleoclimate archive (Litt et al., 2011).
