Stricter fire laws, construction laws, and prohibition of open flames in the fair ground were instituted in the wake of the disaster, and insurance for stall holders was made compulsory.
Stall holders would pay extra to have their market stall here, above it would have been a town meeting room, where the stallholders' fees were collected and kept.
The council gave away 10 stalls to individuals free of charge whilst at the same time it annexed at least one stall from a permanent stall holder without compensation.
