In these "shambas" adjacent to the park, higher densities of the red colobus have been reported living here in more cohesive groups, compared to inside the park reserve.
However, the researchers noted that the red colobus diet contains a high percentage of leaves, while the diet of chimpanzees, other apes and human ancestors consists primarily of fruits.
