Large, sophisticated employers are struggling to track and measure how much the lost productivity resulting from employee absences and presenteeism costs their companies.
The conference heard some of the consequences of presenteeism is burnout, increased stress, poor and longer recovery time and a reduced quality of patient care.
In previous research presenteeism has been linked to errors, lower performance, exacerbating health problems and affecting wellbeing, with more productivity loss than absenteeism.
