July 20, 2014 is the 45th anniversary of the first successful landing on the Moon by Apollo 11 and also the first human step on a foreign celestial body.
Neil Armstrong (2012 †) and Buzz Aldrin entered the lunar surface while Michael Collins as pilot of the command module continued orbiting the moon.
Among other things a laser reflector (LRRR) which was placed on the surface allowed to measure the precise distance between the Earth and Moon.
